Fixture: Oswestry Men 3 v Woore 1
Result: Lost 0-4
Oswestry Mens 3 were served up a disappointing start to their season by Woore 1 on Friday night. Despite having made one of the longest journeys in the league, Woore arrived ready to go from the outset & were soon outscoring a slightly stunned Oswestry.
Peter Scott & Nick Elliott managed to keep things at 2-2 in their first rubber before the pinpoint serving of Graeme Jones started to get the better of them. They won no more games & lost their second rubber in similar style 2-6.
On the other court, Craig Southern & Richard Hann quickly found themselves 1-6 down to Ben Walker & Nigel Stonier before rallying a little in the second rubber to lose 4-6.
It was a similar story after the pairs changed round. Scott & Elliott managed to take their first rubber to a tie break but could not get over the line – losing 5-10. Unfortunately, they then lost any momentum they had built up & capitulated 0-6 in the second. Southern & Hann suffered under the Jones serve, as their team mates had before, & the white wash was completed in a little over two hours.
Woore are only in their second season of Shropshire League tennis. Having been promoted from League 7N last season they look bound for further glory this year. Oswestry 3 will have to shake themselves next Tuesday away to Hollies if they are to make any sort of impact.
