Fixture: Oswestry Mixed 2 v WTTC 1

Result: Lost 0-4

Oswestry Mixed 2 took to the court on Tuesday night for their ‘weekly’ league match. With dark clouds looming overhead and the odd downpour the regular Oswestry team Hollywell, Hann, Hann and Campbell set about their match.

WTTC, hot off a 4-0 win against Wem 1 were keen to take it to the Hann and Hollywell pairing. Both teams were quickly into trading shots with some long rallies consisting of baseline exchanges and fast volleying. The first set was neck and neck with both teams inching ahead only to be reeled back in. The first set saw a tie break situation with Hann and Hollywell taking an early lead. Unfortunately, the WTTC pair were too strong and clinched the tiebreak 7-5. The second set was completely different. Although nearly every game went to deuce, the home side couldn’t convert it to a win and lost 6-1.

Hann and Campbell were also hard at work in their first rubber against a very very strong second WTTC pair. Playing some terrific tennis and demonstrating just how partners should support each other, the pair were defeated for the first time 6-0, 6-4.

In the reverse rubbers, the WTTC pairings continued to dominate play. Hann and Hollywell succumbed to a 6-0, 6-2 defeat but had great fun trying to clinch as many games as possible. Hann and Campbell were defeated 6-3, 6-4.

An enjoyable but unfortunately unsuccessful night for the team who were clearly up against very strong opposition. The team will put this match down to experience and focus on ‘bouncing’ back at their next match against High Ercall.
